FB ULKER: Turkcan extends stay till 2011
In the midst of the Turkish League finals, Fenerbahce Ulker announced on Saturday that rebounding king Mirsad Turkcan had extended his stay with the club for another two seasons. Turkcan (206, 33) will mark five seasons with the club next year. The all-time leading rebounder in Euroleague Basketball history, Turkcan tops the charts in nearly every category associated with cleaning the glass. His 1,149 career rebounds are more than 200 more than the next player and his average of 10.3 per game is 0.3 more than the next closest player. Turkcan is coming off another fine individual season in which he was the regular season runner up in rebounding and the Top 16 leader. He finished the Euroleague season with 15.4 points and 8.6 boards per game in 14 appearances for his club.
In addition to his rebounding prowess, Turkcan was named to the All-Euroleague team three timed and was the 2001-02 Euroleague Regular Season MVP and the 2002-03 Euroleague Top 16 MVP. Turkcan began his career with Fener’s biggest rival, Efes Pilsen, where he played for parts of five seasons. He has also played for New York and Milwaukee of the NBA, Racing Paris in France, CSKA Moscow and Dynamo Moscow in Russia and Montepaschi Siena in Italy. Turkcan has won a total of six league championships during his career – including the Turkish League on five occasions. As a member of the Turkish national team, Turkcan won the silver medal at the 2001 European Championships.
