EFES PILSEN: Rakocevic joins Turkish champs
Igor Rakocevic - Tau CeramicaA current All-Euroleague First Team member and the only two-time scoring champ in the competition this decade, super-shooter Igor Rakocevic, is changing teams with the announcement on Saturday that Efes Pilsen had signed him for three seasons. Rakocevic (192, 31) arrives from Tau Ceramica, where in three seasons he reached the Euroleague Final Four twice and won both the Spanish League and King's Cup. Rakocevic has been a lethal scorer throughout his career, but outdid himself last season, finishing with 18 points per game to run away with the Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy for the highest average over a minimum number of games. Rakocevic had won the Ford Trophy in his first season at Tau, too. In 2008-09, however, Rakocevic's high shooting percentages across the board (50.7% 2FG, 39.8% 3FG, 89.5% FT) and his steady all-around game made him the third-ranked Euroleague player for the season as measure by the performance index rating. At Efes, which was recently crowned Turkish League champion, Rakocevic will step into his well-established role as point-producer for a team that finished 18th of 24 teams in scoring last season. Rakocevic has filled the basket his whole career, averaging 13 points or more in every competition since 1997-98 except for one season he spent in the NBA playing 5 minutes per game in 42 appearances. Turkey will be Rakocevic's fifth country as a pro. He also has played for Red Star in his native Serbia, Buducnost of Montenegro, Minnesota of the NBA, as well as Valencia, Real Madrid and Tau in Spain. He has won league or cup titles, or both, in every country except the United States.
