KHIMKI puts Carlos Cabezas at point, too
A reigning world champion point guard is following his old coach across the continent with the announcement Sunday that BC Khimki Moscow Region, a Euroleague newcomer, has signed Carlos Cabezas to a three-year deal. Cabezas (186, 28) arrives from Unicaja of Spain, where he played his entire career until now, including eight consecutive Euroleague seasons from 2001 to 2009. He helped Unicaja to win the Spanish King's Cup title in 2005, lift the Spanish League trophy in 2006 and reach the Euroleague Final Four in 2007. Cabezas also won the 2001 Korac Cup with Unicaja. In Euroleague play, accumulates 131 Euroleague games, scoring 938 points and dishing 230 assists. Cabezas is also a regular member of the Spanish national team. He helped Spain to win the 2006 World Championships and the 1999 World Junior Championships, as well as to reach the EuroBasket 2007 final. Cabezas already worked together with Khimki head coach Sergio Scariolo, who led Unicaja to all its successes between 2004 and 2008. Scariolo is also the new Spanish national team coach and last week chose Cabezas to re-join the team for EuroBasket 2009 in September. Cabezas signed just days after another Spanish point guard, Raul Lopez, also joined Khimki.
