OLDENBURG extends center, inks guard
Ruben Boumtje Boumtje - EWE Baskets Oldenburg (Photo: www.ewe-baskets.de)Euroleague newcomer EWE Baskets Oldenburg announced on Tuesday the contract extension for center Ruben Boumtje Boumtje (213, 31) and the signing of Acha Njei (190, 24), both for two-year periods. Last season, Boumtje Boumtje averaged 8.9 points and 6.5 rebounds in 46 games with Oldenburg in Germany, including the German League and Cup games. He led the team to take the German League title in the final against Telekom Baskets Bonn. He arrived in Oldenburg in 2007 from Alba Berlin. He had made his debut in Europe with Panellinios of Greece in 2006. He played college ball in Georgetown and was drafted in 2001 by the Portland Trail Blazers, where he stayed until 2004. He played in other NBA teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Orlando Magic, and in between he had a stint with the Fayetteville Patriots of the NBDL. Njei is a small forward arriving from the Bremen Roosters of the German second division, where he averaged 11.1 points, 1.3 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.
