UNICAJA: Jiri Welsch agrees to extension
Jiri Welsch - Unicaja Swingman Jiri Welsch will remain with Unicaja for a fourth season after the two sides agreed to a one-year contract extension on Wednesday. In the past three seasons, Welsch has played 172 games with Unicaja, with an overall average of 8.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per appearance. In that time he has helped the club reach the 2007 Euroleague Final Four and twice reach the Spanish League semifinals. Last season Welsch made 15 Euroleague appearances, in which he averaged 8.5 points and 2.6 rebounds. Welsch first arrived in Malaga in 2006. He grew up with Pardubice in the Czech Republic before moving to Sparta of Prague in 1998 and two years later to Union Olimpija of Slovenia, where he made his Euroleague debut and emerged as one of the top prospects in Europe. Welsch has also played in the NBA with Golden State, Boston, Cleveland and Milwaukee.
