OLDENBURG extends Krunic through 2012
Predrag Krunic - EWE Baskets OldenburgEven before making its debut in the Euroleague, the German champions from EWE Baskets Oldenburg have made a preseason move for the future by extending the contract of head coach Predrag Krunic through 2012. Krunic, 41, joined Oldenburg in 2007 and within two seasons he and the team had given the city its first-ever German League crown. Krunic started in Germany as a strength and conditioning coach for Alba Berlin. He had begun his coaching career at Zemun Belgrad, the city where he had studied sports training at university. He was Zemun's coordinator and junior coach between 1994 and 1998. He then returned to Germany as an assistant coach for three seasons with Telekom Baskets Bonn before taking over as the German League's youngest head coach in 2001, when he was 34. Krunic spent three seasons on Bonn's bench, then two off it before Oldenburg called in 2007. After knocking off defending champ Bamberg in the 2008 domestic playoffs, Krunic and Oldenburg went all the way to the German League trophy last spring, also winning a place in the 2009-10 Euroleague.
