REAL MADRID tabs center D'Or Fischer
Real Madrid strengthened its frontcourt with the signing of center D'Or Fischer, who arrives from Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv. Fischer (211, 28) has been one of the premier shot-blockers in the Euroleague over the past few seasons. He led the Euroleague with 1.8 rejections per game and his career average of 1.76 blocks per game is second on the all-time Euroleague lists. Last season Fischer averaged 8.1 points and 5 rebounds in 20 games with Maccabi, helping the team reach the Euroleague Quarterfinal Playoffs. He shined with 13.5 points on 85.7% shooting, 5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 blocks in under 22 minutes per game in a pair of Top 16 appearances against Madrid. Before joining Maccabi, Fischer played for Euphony Bree, where he was named the 2007-08 Belgian League MVP after leading the league in rebounds, blocked shots and index ranking. Fischer also led the German League in blocked shots (2.6 bpg.) playing for EWE Baskets Oldenburg in the 2006-07 season. He played college basketball at West Virginia University before moving to Europe. His first stop was Poland, where he played for Anwil Wloclawek and registered his ULEB Cup debut in the 2005-06 season.
