REAL MADRID extends Felipe Reyes
Real Madrid announced that power forward Felipe Reyes extended his contract until the end of the 2012-13 season. Reyes (203, 30) arrived at Real Madrid in 2004 and has helped his team win Spanish Leagues titles in 2005 and 2007 - earning playoffs MVP honors that season. He also lifted the ULEB Cup trophy with Madrid in 2007. Among his other career highlights, Reyes won gold medals at the 1999 Junior World Championships, the 2006 World Championships and EuroBasket 2009 with the Spanish national team. He has also reached the EuroBasket 2003 and 2007 finals and took part in the 2008 Olympic Games title game in Beijing, China. Earlier in his career, Reyes won a Spanish King's Cup title with Estudiantes in 2000. He averaged 7.3 points and 5 rebounds in 14 Euroleague games last season, helping Madrid to reach the Quarterfinal Playoffs. Reyes ranks high in both the Euroleague's - 13th, 681 - and the Eurocup's - 3rd, 368 - all-time rebounding lists.
"I am very happy because this is what I really wanted - to be three more years in such a big club where I have been treated so well. Everything ended up being the way I wanted and I would like to thank Real Madrid and our president for the effort they are putting into the basketball section," Reyes said. "We have to have a great season and it would be my way to thank the club. The main reason why I extended my contract was because I identify completely with the club and its fans. I have had six unforgettable years in Real Madrid and I wanted to keep belonging to this club."
