CSKA signs combo-guard Sergey Bykov
CSKA Moscow made Sergey Bykov its first signing in the Dusko Vujosevic era, penning the combo-guard to a two-year deal with an option for the 2012-13 season, pending his physical examination. Bykov (190, 27) arrives from rival Dynamo Moscow, where he has been among that team's leading players for the past several years. Last season he ranked among the top 10 scorers in the Eurocup regular season with 19.5 points and 3 assists in six games. He was fourth in the Russian League with 18.1 points in 31 games and also averaged 14.4 points in the playoffs. Bykov spent his entire career with Dynamo spare the 2004-05 season on loan to Universitet Surgut. With Dynamo, he won the 2006 ULEB Cup and reached the Euroleague playoffs in 2007. Bykov has also been a key member of the Russian national team, with whom he won the gold medal at EuroBasket 2007. Bykov also played at the the 2008 Olympic Games and at EuroBasket 2009. He is expected to be a part of David Blatt’s team at the upcoming World Championships too.
"It is an honor for me to be on CSKA's roster, to fulfill my dream, to fight for victory in every tournament and to get back to the Euroleague," Bykov said. "I am happy to play alongside such a great players and under a famous coach. I am sure that I will be able to improve and to help the team."
"I am glad to have Sergey on our team," Vujosevic said. "Basketball fans know him very well as a quality player. It is important that besides his good individual skills, Bykov possesses the character necessary for teamwork. He still wants to improve and is ready to help CSKA to reach new successes."
