FB ULKER signs big man Lavrinovic
Darjus Lavrinovic - Real Madrid_22308Fenerbahce Ulker added a marquee name to its frontcourt over the weekend by signing former All-Euroleague selection Darjus Lavrinovic from Real Madrid. Lavrinovic (212, 30) had a sparkling start to the season with Madrid last year, but saw his minutes and production dwindle as the season progressed. He exploded for one of the 10 best individual performances on record on opening night last season, finishing with 32 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks for a 49 index and Week 1 MVP honors. By season’s end, Lavrinovic averaged 11.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 0.9 blocks over 20 minutes in 20 games in the Euroleague in addition to 10.1 points and 4.4 rebounds in the Spanish League. Lavrinovic is the twin brother of Montepaschi Siena big man Ksistof Lavrinovic, an All-Euroleague second team selection in 2008.

Darjus Lavrinovic has also played for Dynamo Moscow and Unics Kazan in Russia as well as for Zalgiris and Alytus Alita in his native Lithuania. Lavrinovic won back-to-back Lithuanian League titles with Zalgiris in 2004 and 2005 and also lifted the Baltic League trophy in 2005. He was an All-Euroleague second team selection in 2006 when he averaged 14.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in 20 games for Zalgiris. Among his other career highlights are reaching the 2007 ULEB Cup semifinals and the 2008 ULEB Cup Final Eight with Unics and reaching the Russian Cup final and the Eurocup Final Eight in 2008 with Dynamo. Lavrinovic is a regular member of the Lithuanian national team and won the bronze medal at EuroBasket 2007. He also holds a Euroleague Top 16 single-game record with 7 blocks, set with Zalgiris against Panathinaikos on March 17, 2005.
