MACCABI ELECTRA keeps Bluthenthal
Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv made sure to keep one of the team's most familiar faces in recent years by extending forward David Bluthenthal for one more season, the club announced Monday. Maccabi also retained an option on the player for the 2011-12 season. Bluthenthal (201, 30) had returned to Maccabi for his third stint with the club last summer and averaged 9.3 points in 19 Euroleague games last season. He boosted his numbers to 11.3 points in the Top 16, helping Maccabi win its group. This will be Bluthenthal's fifth season with Maccabi. He arrived to Maccabi in the summer of 2002 after finishing his four-year college basketball career at the University of Southern California. Bluthenthal played a key role in helping Maccabi win the 2004 Euroleague title. He scored 20 points in less than 17 minutes in the unforgettable 2004 title game against Skipper Bologna. Bluthenthal went on to play for Dynamo St. Petersburg in Russia and Benetton Treviso, Virtus Bologna and Fortitudo Bologna in Italy before returning to Maccabi in the summer of 2007. Bluthenthal helped Maccabi reach the Euroleague final in 2008 before leaving to join French powerhouse Le Mans. Bluthenthal has also won two Israeli League championships and three Israeli Cup titles with Maccabi.
"I am happy that David stays with us. He became part of the great legacy of Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv, and is a player that can help us in a lot of ways," head coach David Blatt said.
