BROSE BASKETS keeps Anton Gavel
Anton Gavel - Brose BasketsBrose Baskets kept getting ready for its Euroleague return by extending starting point guard Anton Gavel until the end of the 2011-12 season, the club announced Thursday. Gavel (189, 25) averaged 10 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 36 German League games last season. He helped Brose to win the German League and the German Cup titles, as well as leading the team to the Eurocup Last 16. Gavel had a team-high 16 points in do-or-die Game 5 of the German League best-of-five title series, allowing Brose to down Deutsche Bank Skyliners 72-70 and lift the trophy. Gavel started the 2009-10 season with BK Svit, averaging 22.5 points and 3.5 assists in 2 Slovak League games before arriving in Bamberg. He has also played for Aris in Greece, Murcia in Spain, as well as for Giessen and Karlsruhe in Germany. Gavel is also a member of the Slovak national team. "Anton always finds out what needs to be done to win game - and did it. He has always been ready to accept different roles and always stepped up when the game was on the line," Brose head coach Chris Fleming said. "Once he came into the team, we have a 32-9 record in the German League. He has a lot of pride and appreciates the chance to play the Euroleague next season."
