MONTEPASCHI SIENA lands center Akindele
Montepaschi Siena announced on Monday the signing of center Deji Akindele for the remainder of the current season. Akindele (214, 27) arrives from the Russian League, where he played one game this season for BC Nizhny Novgorod, scoring 16 points and pulling 7 rebounds. The Nigerian native played college basketball for Chicago State University, where he was named the 2004-05 Mid-Continent Conference Defensive Player of the Year and left as the school’s career leader in blocked shots. He has since played professionally in the NBDL for Fort Worth and Iowa, in Spain for Calpe Aguas and Obradoiro, in France for Pau-Orthez and Rouen and in Italy for Scavolini Pesaro. Akindele has played for the Nigerian national team at the 2007 and 2009 African national championships.
