ZALGIRIS gets center Marjanovic on loan
Top-16 bound Zalgiris Kaunas has reinforced its frontcourt with the addition of center Boban Marjanovic on loan from CSKA Moscow for the remainder of the season. Marjanovic (222, 22) averaged 4.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 0.6 blocks over eight Euroleague games in a reserve role this season. Those numbers jumped to 6.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in the Russian League. Marjanovic signed a three-year deal with CSKA last summer and is expected to return to the Russian champs at the end of this season. He is expected in Lithuania on Monday and will be eligible to play for Zalgiris when Euroleague play resumes with the Top 16. Marjanovic grew up with Hemofarm Stada in his native Serbia. He helped Hemofarm to make it to the Serbian League finals in 2008 and 2010. Marjanovic also reached the Eurocup semifinals in 2009 and the Adriatic League final in 2008. He has been a member of the Serbian national team. Marjanovic helped Serbia to win the gold medal in the 2006 World under-19 Championships and the 2008 European under-20 Championships.
"I am delighted that we found someone to strengthen the center position so quickly," Zalgiris head coach Rimantas Grigas said. "Marjanovic is an exceptional basketball player. He is tall hardly needs to jump to put the ball in the basket. We will have to find ways to exploit his size. He is a young promising basketball player, who has been making progress each month, so I hope that he will continue to improve during the season."
