EFES PILSEN adds All-Euroleague Savanovic
Efes Pilsen made a major roster move for the 2011-12 Turkish Airlines Euroleague season by signing All-Euroleague forward Dusko Savanovic to a three-year contract. Savanovic (2.04 meters, 27 years old) arrives from Power Electronics Valencia, where he came within one game of the Final Four in what was his rookie Euroleague season. Savanovic led Valencia in scoring with 11.9 points per game and also averaged 4.6 rebounds over 21 Euroleague contests. His propensity for hitting big shos late in games helped propel Valencia from difficult starts to qualify for the Top 16 and the Playoffs, where they were the only losing team to push a series to the fifth and final game. Savanovic was rewarded when fans and media made him an All-Euroleague Second Team selection at the end of the season. Before the season started, Savanovic played an important role with the Serbian national team at the 2010 FIBA World Championships in Turkey and helped that squad reach the semifinals. He has also played for Cajasol in Spain, Unics in Russia and Borac Cacak and FMP in his native Serbia. Savanovic helped Unics reach the ULEB Cup semifinals and the Russian Cup final in 2007. He also made it to the ULEB Cup Final Eight in 2008 and won the Adriatic League title with FMP in 2006. An Efes Pilsen spokesman indicated that the club is still in the process of negotiating a buyout of Savanovic's contract with Valencia.
