MONTEPASCHI: McCalebb stays put
Italian champ Montepaschi Siena announced a contract extension with star guard Bo McCalebb for three more seasons. The deal will keep the former All-Euroleague playmaker in Siena through the end of the 2013-14 season. McCalebb (1.83 meters, 26 years old) had a difficult last season with Siena due to injury problems. However, he was able to play in 15 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games and register 11.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.8 steals helping his team reach the 2011 Final Four in Barcelona, where it lost in semis to eventual champ Panathinaikos. McCalebb was particularly dominant in the Regular Season, when he ranked fifth in scoring (15.5 ppg.), fourth in performance index rating (18.1) and second in steals (2.4 spg.). After returning from injury to play in the Final Four, McCalebb continued his progression and was named MVP of the Italian League final after he led his teammates to their fifth straight league title. McCalebb played college basketball at the University of New Orleans from 2003 to 2008 and then he crossed the pond to make his pro debut in Turkey with Mersin Belediyesi. He didn't go unnoticed and Partizan Belgrade chose him to be its leader for the 2009-10 season, in what would be his Euroleague debut. He had immediate impact on the competition and led Partizan to its first Final Four since 1998. That season he was named to the All-Euroleague Second Team and led Partizan to the Serbian and Adriatic League titles.
