Aleksey Savrasenko joins Unics KazanUnics Kazan added some big-time experience to help fill the middle next season by signing veteran center Aleksey Savrasenko, a three-time Euroleague champion, on Thursday. Savrasenko (2.15 meters, 32 years old) arrives from BC Khimki Moscow Region, which just finished as runner-up in the Russian League. A long-time force of dominance in the paint, Savrasenko ranks fifth all-time among the Euroleague career leaders in blocked shots with 119. Savrasenko averaged 3.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in 10 Euroleague games as a reserve last season and he posted 5.7 points and 3.4 rebounds for Khimki in the Russian League. Savrasenko spent most of his career with CSKA Moscow – seven seasons between 2002 and 2009 – during which he won Euroleague titles in 2006 and 2008. He was instrumental in the first of those, which was won at the 2006 Final Four in Prague and ended CSKA's 35-year drought as European champion. He also lifted five consecutive Russian League trophies from 2003 to 2008 before leaving the club to join Spartak St. Petersburg in January 2009. As a teenager, Savrasenko helped Olympiacos to win its only Euroleague title in 1997. Savrasenko also won EuroBasket 2007 with the Russian national team and played in the 2008 Olympic Games.
