UNICS extends Petr Samoylenko
Eurocup champion and Turkish Airlines Euroleague debutante Unics announced on Monday a contract extension with the team captain, guard Petr Samoylenko, for the next season. Samoylenko (1.86 meters, 34 years old) averaged 2.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 14 Eurocup appearances last season, to help Unics become Eurocup champ for the first time. Samoylenko has spent most of his life as a basketball player at Unics. He started his pro career at Samara in 1996, but already in 1997 he moved to Unics. He played in Kazan until 2007, when he signed for Dynamo Moscow but the following season he returned to Unics and has stayed there ever since. Also a member of the Russian national team, Samoylenko won the gold medal at the 2007 Eurobasket and with Unics also won the 2009 Russian Cup and the 2004 Europe FIBA League.
