PANATHINAIKOS gets another Calathes, Pat
Pat Calathes - Maroussi Costa CoffeeTurkish Airlines Euroleague champion Panathinaikos will have more of a family feel this season after the club signed the older brother of one of its rising stars. The Greens signed forward Pat Calathes, whose younger brother Nick Calathes played a major role toward lifting the team to the Euroleague title last season. The elder Calathes (2.08 meters, 25 years old) has one past season of Euroleague experience under his belt. He helped Maroussi reach the 2010 Euroleague Top 16 with 4.5 points on 54.2% three-point shooting. Last season he played for Κolossos VAP and enjoyed his best professional campaign to date with 14.9 points and 8.4 rebounds in 26 games. Before moving to Greece in 2008, Calathes played college basketball for St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, USA, where he was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and was the 2007-08 Big 5 Co-Player of the Year as a senior.

"I feel blessed to belong to the Panathinaikos family. It was one of my dreams since I started to play in Greece three years ago and I am really happy that I have been given this opportunity," Calathes said. "Playing for Zeljko Obradovic is a great honor and I am sure I will learn a lot from him. Having my brother Nick as teammate is important. It is something we always dreamed of as children - being able to play together in a professional team. My family is really excited to have us both in Panathinaikos."
