BENNET CANTU signs Shermadini
Saso Ozbolt, Giorgi Shermadini - Union OlimpijaBennet Cantu added significant size to its frontline by signing center Giorgi Shermadini for the coming season. Shermadini (2.16 meters, 22 years old) played on loan last season for Union Olimpija from Panathinaikos. He starred for Olimpija with 7.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 16 Euroleague games off the bench, but was truly elite in the Top 16 stage. Shermadini's numbers shot up to 10 points, 5.2 rebounds and a competition best 2.2 blocks over those six games. He also ranked fifth in the Euroleague in per-minute index rating in the Top 16.

Shermadini grew up at Maccabi Tbilisi in his native Georgia before joining Panathinaikos three years ago. He was on the Greens’ roster when they won the 2009 Euroleague, though he made only one appearance that season. Shermadini is also a member of the Georgian national team. He averaged 4.4 points and 4.4 rebounds for Georgia at EuroBasket 2011 last summer. At Cantu he will be reunited with a teammate from that squad, Manu Markoishvili.
