UNICAJA makes Repesa its new head coach
After suffering its worst Euroleague winning percentage of the century this season, Unicaja of Spain has chosen veteran head coach Jasmin Repesa to turn things around. Unicaja and Repesa have agreed to a contract for next season and another optional, club president Eduardo Garcia announced at a press conference Wednesday. Repesa, 51, arrives from Cibona Zagreb after winning another Croatian League title for the team with which he began his coaching career. Repesa's career is highlighted by reaching the 2004 Euroleague title game with Fortitudo Bologna of Italy. One year ago, he also took Benetton Treviso of Italy to the Eurocup Finals. In three different stints with Cibona, he led the club to four Croatian titles, in 1996, 1997, 2002 and 2012. In between those, he coached Tofas Bursa to a pair of Turkish League crowns and Fortitudo Bologna to the 2005 Italian League title. He also coached Split of Croatia, Slask Wroclaw of Poland, Lottomatica Roma and Benetton in Italy. Repesa is currently the head coach of the Croatian national team, a post he held also from 2005 to 2009, highlighted by a sixth-place finish in the 2008 Olympics in China. In Malaga, Repesa will try to turn around what was Unicaja's toughest season in the Euroleague this century, with a 4-12 record following losses in 11 of its last 12 games.
