ALBA BERLIN, Schaffartzik together until 2014
Heiko Schaffartzik - Alba BerlinAlba Berlin reached a new agreement with point guard Heiko Schaffartzik to keep him in the team until the end of the 2013-14 season, the club announced Tuesday. Schaffartzik (1.81 meters, 28 years old) averaged 8.5 points and 2.2 assists in 11 Eurocup games last season, helping Alba to make it to the Last 16. He grew up in Berlin and began his career with Alba, to which he returned from Turk Telekom midway through the 2010-11 season. Until then, Schaffartzik had spent his entire career in his native Germany. He debuted with Alba from 2002 to 2004, but did not appear in any Euroleague games for the team. He subsequently played for Geissen, Nurnberg, Oldenburg and Ludwigsburg, where he averaged 10.2 points in six Eurocup games in 2007-08. Schaffartzik returned to Giessen for a season before moving to New Yorker Phantoms and Turk Telekom. "I am glad that Heiko will stay in Alba. This is an important contract extension for us," head coach Sasa Obradovic said. "I know Heiko well and know how to make the most out of his skills. He will help the team a lot with his game and passion. My experience as point guard will also help him to develop his game."
