EA7 EMPORIO ARMANI, Hairston stay together
EA7 Emporio Armani Milan will have its leading scorer back next season after agreeing to terms on a new contract with swingman Malik Hairston, which will keep him in the fashion capital through the 2013-14 season. Hairston (1.98 meters, 25 years old) averaged 13.9 points on 48% three-point shooting and 3.1 rebounds in 12 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games. He also posted 12.1 points and 3.6 rebounds in the Italian League to help Armani reach the finals. It was Hairston’s second season in Italy after debuting with Montepaschi Siena the previous season and helping them reach the Euroleague Final Four in Barcelona. He was the Euroleague's weekly MVP after both Games 2 and 4 of the playoffs to lead Siena over Olympiacos and into the Final Four. Hairston first made a name for himself playing college basketball at the University of Oregon, which he helped win the Pac-10 Tournament and reach the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2007. He also played for the United States under-18 national team. After college, Hairston played for NBA powerhouse San Antonio and for Austin in the D-League.
"I want to thank the team and its great fans for their continuous support," Hairston said. "I am happy to return to Milan and to continue with the project we started together. Our goal is to win both in Italy and Europe."
"I am very happy that Malik Hairston has decided to continue his adventure with us," head coach Sergio Scariolo said. "Malik improved a lot last year and his young age and work ethic make me think that he can continue improving. We are very glad to continue the work we started to help him succeed as a great, high-level player."
