PANATHINAIKOS signs playmaker Ukic
Panathinaikos Athens restocked its backcourt by signing guard Roko Ukic to a two-year deal, the club announced Monday. Ukic (1.96 meters, 27 years old) arrives from Fenerbahce Ulker, where he has spent the past two-and-a-half seasons. He averaged 11.1 points and 2.1 assists in 15 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games last season in addition to 11.4 points and 4.1 assists per game in the Turkish League. Over the course of his Euroleague career, Ukic has averaged 9 points and 2.4 assists in 89 games over six seasons with four clubs – Tau Ceramica and FC Barcelona of Spain, Lottomotica Roma in Italy and FB Ulker in Turkey. He grew up playing for KK Split in his native Croatia, for whom Ukic played in the FIBA SuproLeague two days after his 16th birthday. He also played for Milwaukee and Toronto of the NBA. Among Ukic’s career highlights have been winning the Croatian League once, the Turkish League twice and a total of five domestic cups in Croatia, Spain and Turkey. He also played the 2006 Euroleague Final Four with Tau Ceramica. He is also a regular member of the Croatian national team and took part in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2010 FIBA World Championships in Istanbul. At the junior level, Ukic led the Croatian under-18 national team to victory in the European Championships in 2002.
