MACCABI ELECTRA tabs veteran big man Mensah-Bonsu
Mensah-Bonsu Pops - CSKA MoscowHigh-flying big man Pops Mensah-Bonsu, whose played only parts of two previous Euroleague seasons were, will return to the competition on a two-year contract with Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv, the club announced on Thursday. Mensah-Bonsu (2.06 meters, 28 years old) arrives from Besiktas JK Istanbul, which he helped to claim the Turkish League title last season, averaging 12.8 points and 7.7 rebounds over 33 games last season. Mensah-Bonsu debuted in the Euroleague with DKV Joventut of Spain in 2008, and was MVP of the Week in his second game, but then suffered a season-ending injury. He returned in 2009-10 as a mid-season signing by CSKA Moscow and averaged 4.1 points in less than 8 minutes per game while helping the team reach the Final Four in Paris, where it finished third. Israel would become the seventh country in Mensah-Bonsu's pro career, which began with Dallas of the NBA. In 2007, he joined Benneton Basket of Italy and averaged 10 points, 7.7 rebounds in 11 Eurocup games. He has since played for Joventut, CSKA, New Orleans of the NBA, Asvel Basket of France and Besiktas, with whom he also won the 2011-12 FIBA EuroChallenge last season as MVP of the final tournament.
