FENERBAHCE ULKER fills void in middle with Sekulic

Blagota Sekulic - Alba Berlin- Finals 2010 Vitoria-Gasteiz_26137After losing two big men to in juries in the previous week, Fenerbahce Ulker moved quickly to fortify its frontcourt with the signing of Blagota Sekulic from Spanish side Iberostar Tenerife. Sekulic (2.10 meters, 31 years old) has been among the best players in the Spanish ACB this season; he leads the competition with an average performance index rating of 21.3. Sekulic ranks second with 17.7 points per game and is tied for third with 7.1 rebounds per game. He was named the Spanish League’s Player of the Month in both October and December this season. This was his second season in Tenerife.

Sekulic has already played parts of six Euroleague seasons for five different teams, though he has not taken part in a Euroleague games since 2009 with Alba Berlin . He grew up with Buducnost Podgorica in his native Montenegro and made his Euroleague debut for that team in December 2000 at age 18. The next stops in his Euroleague career were Partizan Belgrade, from 2002 to 2003, and AEK Athens the next season. After two-and-a-half more seasons in the Greek League for Maroussi Athens and PAOK Thessaloniki, Sekulic joined Real Madrid in January of 2007 and went on to become a ULEB Cup champion that season. He has since suited up for Aris Thessaloniki in Greece, Alba Berlin in Germany, Vanoli Cremona in Italy and UCAM Murcia in Spain. Sekulic has won the Yugoslavian and Spanish Leagues and won Yugoslavian and German Cups. With Alba Berlin, he was named to the 2010 All-Eurocup Second Team after helping the team reach that season’s Eurocup title game.
