Greek Cup final: March 25, 2007
Kostas Tsartsaris - Panathinaikos The first title of the Greek season went to Panathinaikos as the Greens won the Greek Cup for the third year in a row, this time 87-48 over A2 team Rethymno. It was the 10th trophy for Panathinaikos in the history of the competition, two more than Aris and three more than rival Olympiacos. It was a big night for the team captain Frangiskos Alvertis, who won his 18th trophy (including the Euroleague and the Greek Championship) in 17 seasons with Panathinaikos. The first period was quite interesting, as Rethymno – a team that knocked out seven teams en route to the final including A1 sides Panionios and PAOK – led the game four times, but the defending champs closed the quarter with a 22-18 lead and never looked back. Panathinaikos was close to breaking the record for biggest deficit in a final (Aris vs Panellinios 110-70 in 1987), but missed bu a basket. Kostas Tsartsaris scored 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds on his way to being named MVP, while Sani Becirovic and Dimitris Diamantidis added 11 apiece. Ramunas Siskouskas, who had been sidelined with a calf injury, came back and scored 9 points and Mike Batiste had 8. Rethymno, which made 8-of-25 threes, had no player with double digits in scoring. Giannis Kiriakopoulos and Alexis Liatsos had 9 apiece.

On Saturday, Panionios beat Olympiada Patras 55-67 on the road in a game postponed due to Panionios’s obligations in the Fiba Eurocup. Kennedy Winston scored 20 points and Stratos Perperoglou 11 as the team from Nea Smirni earned a share of fourth place with PAOK.
