Turkish League, Game 25: March 28, 2007
Drew Nicholas - Efes Pilsen Fenerbahce Ulker struggled, but still managed to beat Mutlu Aku Selcuk University 84-78 on Wednesday to remain even with Turk Telekom atop the Turkish League with 23 wins in 25 games. Turk Telekom had little trouble bouncing Oyak Renault 67-93. Meanwhile Efes Pilsen stayed on their tails by pounding last-place Tekel 100-64 behind 20 points from Drew Nicholas. Besiktas Cola Turka picked up a crucial road win at Pinar Karsiyaka, 56-63, to remain in contention for fourth place. The come-from-behind victory was the club's first win under new coach Ufuk Sarica. In other games, Galatasaray Cafe Crown topped Beykoz 80-72, Alpella downed Banvit 73-61, Darussafaka edged Mersin Buyuksehir Belediyesi 83-81 and CASA TED Kolejliler overcame Tofas 102-91.

Fener started strong and led 12-8 after 4 minutes. However the inside play of David Lee Dixon kept Selcuk close, even though Ibrahim Kutluay and Omer Onan teamed to put the hosts ahead 21-19 after 10 minutes. The visitors' strong defense in the second quarter stopped Fener, but still critical points in the last minute of the first half by Will Solomon and Mirsad Turkcan helped Fener to a 34-33 halftime advantage. Towards the end of a back-and-forth third quarter, Damir Mrsic and Solomon heated up to build a 56-50 lead for the hosts. Mrsic gave Fener its biggest lead, 59-51, in the opening minute of the last period with a three pointer, but Selcuk University didn't give up the fight. With 3-and-a-half minutes to play, Dominique Hawkins's free throws made cut the deficit to 70-69. But Mrsic and Solomon came to the rescue and the visitors were unable to answer as Fener won by 6. Mrsic scored his 17 points all in the second half, Solomon added 16, Turkcan had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds and Kutluay posted 13 points, too. Brian Boddicker had 20 points and 9 rebounds, Hawkins had 14 points plus 6 assists and Kendell Dartez added 13 for Selcuk University.

Efes Pilsen became the only team to record at least 100 points in a game twice by defeating Tekel 100-64. The first quarter result, 27-13, was a sign of things to come as Efes played with young players off the bench for most of the second half. Nicholas led Efes with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists, Antonio Granger scored 13 – all in the first half, plus 4 rebounds and 5 assists, and Can Akin had 12 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists. All Efes 12 players were involved in the scoring. Cornelius Richardson was the only scorer in double digits for Tekel with 15. Besiktas Cola Turka also had an important 56-63 win at Pinar Karsiyaka for its first victory under new coach Ufuk Sarica. The visitors were down 54-52 with just 4 minutes to go, but a big defensive effort and the critical points from Erkan Veyseloglu and Donnell Harvey ignited a 2-11 game-ending run that sent the win home with Besiktas. Veyseloglu finished with 17 points, Harvey had 14 and Baris Ozcan 11 for the visitors. Marcus Slaughter was the best man for Pinar Karsiyaka with 13 points.
