German Cup quarterfinals, second leg: March 28, 2007
Demond Mallet - RheinEnergie RheinEnergie Cologne and Eisbaren Bremerhaven qualified for the German Cup semifinals on Wednesday night with respective wins. RheinEnergie edged Alba Berlin 74-69, while Bremerhaven stunned EWE Oldenburg 66-72. They join Artland Dragons and EnBW Ludwigsburg, who earlier punched their tickets to the semis. RheinEnergie led 34-32, but increased the lead to 64-48 entering in the final quarter. Demond Mallet and Immanuel McElroy led the way for Cologne with 19 points apiece, while Marcin Gortat contributed 16. Chris Owen of Alba Berlin led all the scorers with 23 points, Koko Archibong drilled 14 and Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje and Sharrod Ford produced 10 apiece. Eisbaren Bremerhaven stunned EWE Oldenburg on the road after going up 32-43 at halftime and extending it to 45-60 at the end of the third quarter. Bremerhaven then rejected all Oldenburg attempts of a late comeback. Zygimantas Jonusas scored 16 points for the winners, John Bynum tallied 15, Charles-Judson Wallace 13 and Adam Chubb finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Desmond Penigar posted 14 for Oldenburg in defeat.
