Adriatic League semifinals, Game 1: March 27-28, 2007
BC FMP bounced back from a disappointing end to its ULEB Cup season by inching towards the Adriatic League finals with a 77-73 win over Hemofarm Vrsac on Wednesday in Zeleznik, Serbia. Cibona Zagreb took a similar step the previous night by topping rival Partizan Belgrade 76-69 in the Croatian capital. The best-of-three semifinals series resume with Partizan hosting Cibona on Thursday and Hemofarm hosting FMP on Friday. The finals are set to begin on April 14.
Zoran Erceg and Predrag Samardziski teamed up on a 9-0 run to give FMP a 10-lead early in the fourth quarter, but led by Vanja Plisnic, who scored 12 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter, Hemofarm cut the gap to 1 in the closing minutes. Dragan Labovic's three-point play gave FMP a 4-point advantage and Slobodan Popovic missed a chance to increase it with a pair of missed free throws in the final seconds. Branko Cvetkovic drew 10 fouls and made 10-of-15 free throws on his way to 20 points to lead FMP. Erceg added 11 and Labovic 10 for the winners. Aleksej Nesovic posted 19 to lead Hemofarm, Predrag Suput added 16, Plisnic 13 and Milenko Topic 12.
Cibona busted out to a 29-15 first quarter and led by as many as 16 points early in the second, but Partizan never quit and Predrag Drobnjak cut the gap to 59-57 with a three at the end of the third quarter. Dusan Kecman gave Partizan its first lead since the opening basket with a three-point play at the start of the fourth quarter. Back-to-back threes from Barisa Krasic and Andrew Wisniewski restored the Cibona lead and Brent Wright made it hold up for good. Krasic and Wright led Cibona with 18 each, Davor Kus added 14 and Chris Warren and Wisniewski 11. Krasic also had 9 rebounds. Drobnjak paced Partizan with 19, Nikola Pekovic scored 16, and Kosta Perovic and Kecman tallied 10 each.
