Mire Chatman - Lottomatica Roma It was a thrilling mid-week round in the Italian League, but everything stayed the same atop the standings. Montepaschi Siena improved to 21-4 by thrashing Tisettanta Cantu 93-75 at home on Thursday behind 19 points each from Romain Sato and Terrell McIntyre. Benetton took a step to get out of its difficult situation after a 15-point suspension in the competition by edging Snaidero Cucine Udine 67-74 on the road on Wednesday. Marcus Goree led the winners with 17 points and 9 rebounds while Damon Williams had 24 points for Udine. Eldo Napoli beat TDShop.it Livorno 92-83 to improve to 13-12 in the league board. Michel Morandais paced the winners with 34 points on 6-of-10 three-pointers. Mire Chatman provided a highlight by hitting the game-winning, buzzer-beating triple that lifted Lottomatica Roma to a 64-67 road win against Upea Capo D'Orlando. Climamio Bologna dropped to 11-14 due to a 74-73 road loss against Premiata Montegranaro at the buzzer. In other games, Whirlpool Varese bested Angelico Biella 83-74, VidiVici Bologna edged Bibop Carire Reggio Emilia 82-79, Air Avellino downed Legea Scafati 97-81 while Armani Jeans Milano topped Siviglia Wear Teramo 96-92.

Joseph Forte added 17, Ben Eze had 16 and Lonny Baxter 15. These for players combined for all Montepaschi points in the first quarter to make the hosts get a 30-10 margin after 10 minutes. Montepaschi boosted its lead to 54-33 at halftime and never looked back. Benetton Treviso took a step forwards to get out of its difficult situation by edging Snaidero Cucine Udine 67-74 on the road on Wednesday. Benetton improved to 16-9 but is at the bottom of the table due to its 15-point suspension while Udine dropped to 10-15. Goree led the winners with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Nikos Zisis added 15, Terrell Lyday had 11 and Matteo Soragna 10. Williams had 24 points for Udine, Mike Penberthy added 11 and Jerome Allen 10. A 9-2 run that Williams capped with a layup tied the game, 59-59, midway through the final period. Goree, Zisis and Soragna fueled a 0-9 run that put Benetton ahead for good, 59-68. Zisis hit 6 of 6 free throws in the final 2 minutes to make Benetton put the victory on ice.

Eldo Napoli bounced back from recent losses by beating TDShop.it Livorno 92-83 to improve to 13-12 in the league board. Morandais paced the winners with 34 points on 6-of-10 three-pointers, Tyrone Ellis had 13 and Larry O'Bannon added 11 for Napoli, that lead for the best part of the game. Even when Livorno got within 82-78 with 2 minutes to go, Simone Flamini and Ellis allowed the hosts to win the game. Lottomatica Roma survived a physical battle by edging Upea Capo D'Orlando 64-67 in overtime to move up tp 16-9 in the standings. Mire Chatman led the winners with 15 points, including an incredible triple to win the game at the buzzer. Erazem Lorbek added 14, Dejan Bodiroga had 13 and David Hawkins 10 for Roma. Alvin Young had 21 points for Upea, including a layup to force overtime at 58-58. Lorbek allowed Roma to get a 62-64 edge with seconds to go. Donzell Rush tied it at 64-64 before Chatman won it for Roma. Climamio Bologna dropped to 11-14 due to a 74-73 road loss against Premiata Montegranaro. Ronald Slay became the game hero by grabbing an offensive rebound, drawing a foul and calmly making free throws to win the game. Stefano Mancinelli had 19 points for Climamio, Marco Belinelli added 17, James Thomas 12 and Jerome Moiso 11. Climamio rallied from a 11-point halftime deficit and managed to get a 71-72 edge on free throws by Belinelli, but Slay allowed Montegranaro to keep fighting for a playoff spot.
