Baltic League Playoffs, Eighthfinals Game 1: March 29, 2007
ASK Riga took a step towards the Baltic League quarterfinals Thursday with a convincing 67-86 road win at Lacplesa Alus, while Kalev/Cramo Tallinn edged Barons/LMT 70-67 to set up an exciting second leg in that series. The winners of the two-game eighthfinals series advance to the quarterfinals for a shot at a spot in the Final Four. Ventspils awaits the Kalev/Cramo vs Barons/LMT winner, while Siauliai gets the Riga vs Lacplesa Alus victor. Riga, which went 3-7 in Division I of Phase 2 of the league, overpowered Alus, which was 10-4 in Division II. Sandis Buskevics led Riga with 14 points, while Torraye Braggs posted 12 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Rashad Phillips posted 18 for Alus. Meanwhile Travis Reed dominated the paint to the tune of 17 points and 16 rebounds to help Kalev/Cramo past Barons/LMT. The visitors used a 1-8 spurt early in the fourth quarter to go ahead by 5 and led by 3 with less than 2 minutes to go, but Reed, Kristjan Kangur and Kendrick Johnson combined for the game's last 6 points to give Kalev/Cramo the win. Kangir finished with 15 points and 9 boards for Kalev/Cramo, which won Division II with a 10-4 mark. Barons/LMT got 16 points and 9 rebounds from Armands Skele, while Curtis Marshall scored 15 and had 4 steals.
