Ovarense Aerosoles stays unstoppable in the Portuguese League and improved to 26-3 in the standings by downing difficult Porto Ferpinta 88-71 at home on Thursday. Former Porto player led the winners with 18 points. Ben Reed added 12 and Gregory Stempin 10 for Ovarense. Rodrigo Mascarenhas had 14 points for Porto, that won the Portuguese Cup title last weekend. Ovarense led 46-38 at halftime and boosted its margin to 69-48 after 30 minutes, enough to seal the outcome. Casino Figueira Ginasio improved to 11-18 and confirmed its good moment by edging Queluz Sintra PM 66-64 at home on Wednesday. Chet Stachitas paced the winners with 23 points while Jesse Smith added 17. Jamie Kendrick had 12 points for Queluz, that rallied from an 11-point deficit to get within 65-64 with 10 seconds to go. Smith made 1 of 2 free throws while Rob Kempman missed a potential game-winning three-point shot at the buzzer. In other games, Barreirense thrashed CAB Madeira 90-65 on Wednesday behind 28 points from Cody Toppert and 27 from Joao Gomes while Benfica downed Lusitania Angra PM 92-81 on Thursday with 26 points from Carlos Andrade.
