Slovenian League Finals, Game 5: June 10, 2007
Helios Domzale is the Slovenian League champion! Helios managed to lift its first-ever Slovenian League trophy by downing injury-plagued Union Olimpija 82-65 in make-or-break Game 5 in Domzale on Sunday. As such. Helios won the series 3-2 amd rewrote Slovenian basketball history. Former Olimpija center Smiljan Pavic led the winners with 17 points. Dario Krejic added 15, Aleksej Laskevic had 14 while Ziga Zagorc got 10 for Helios. Slavko Duscak had 21 points for Olimpija, that played without Domen Lorbek, Teemu Rannikko and Manu Markoishvili. Marko Rakocevic added 14 while Sandi Cebular had 12 for the guests. Helios opened the game with a 11-4 run that Robert Troha capped with a triple, while Aljaz Janza also stroke from downtown for a 23-17 lead after 10 minutes. Pavic and Laskevic helped Helios to stay ahead, 45-37, at halftime. Olimpija collapsed after the break, while Helios broke the game open with an 11-0 run that made it a 19-point game, 56-37. Olimpija never recovered, allowing a sellout crowd in Domzale to celebrate that Helios is the new Slovenian League champion!

2006-07 SLOVENIAN LEAGUE PREVIEW
Nothing changes in the Slovenian League, as Union Olimpija stays as the team to beat. Olimpija won 13 titles since the Slovenian League started in 1992, which gives at idea about its power in its domestic competition. Olimpija landed Erden Arslan, Christian Maraker, Miha Zupan or Marko Milic, joining Teemu Rannikko, Ivica Jurkovic or Saso Ozbolt to stay as the top team in the country. The alternative should be Geoplin Slovan, which inked Milos Paravinja, Ronell Taylor, Aleksandar Jevdic and Maurice Latham to challenge Olimpija for the title. Helios Domzale has also built up a solid team featuring Sasa Doncic, Robert Troha, Smiljan Pavic or Aleksei Lashkevich. A 12-team regular season will be followed by a second stage, in which the top 6 teams in the country will battle their way for a spot in the semifinals. Elektra Esotech, with Jernej Mihalic, Miha Cmer and Blaz Rucigaj, and Pivovarna Lasko, with Grego Mali and Zan Vrecko, should battle for a berth in the semifinals, too.
