Sharrod Ford - Alba Berlin Alba Berlin stayed atop the German League standings now with a 22-5 record by edging Sellbytel Baskets Nurnberg 79-80 on the road on Saturday. Sharrod Ford led the winners with 16 points. Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, Johannes Herber added 13 points and Chris Owens 12 for Alba, that led all the way until Nurnberg got a 62-61 edge with 8 minutes to go. Nico Simon and Herber rescued Alba and helped the guests to keep a safe lead, as a final triple by Nurnberg happened to be too little, too late. Brose Baskets improved to 19-8 by topping Paderborn Baskets 74-84 on the road also on Saturday. Casey Jacobsen led the winners with 20 points, Darren Fenn added 19, Chris Ensminger had 13 and Steffen Hamann 1. Brose Baskets limited its opponents to 5 second-quarter points to get a 33-45 halftime lead and then kept full control of the game until the final buzzer. RheinEnergie also improved to 19-8 by edging EnBW Ludwigsburg 70-66 in Cologne on Sunday. Aleksandar Nadjfeji had 15 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter. Immanuel McElroy added 14 and Marcin Gortat 10 for RheinEnergie. Jerry Green had 24 points for the guests. RheinEnergie led 19-15 after 30 minutes but Green helped Ludwigsburg to stay in the game, 34-34, at halftime. Green and Ferreira combined for 16 points in the third period for a 47-53 Ludwigsburg lead after 30 minutes. RheinEnergie found a go-to guy in Nadjfeji, who had 13 points in 7 minutes for a 63-62 edge with 2 minutes to go. Nadjfeji and Devin Green helped the hosts to escape with a win. In other games, Ratiopharm Ulm beat Telekom Baskets Bonn 80-68, EWE Baskets Oldenburg topped Braunschweig 75-67, TBB Trier bested BG Karlsruhe 88-73, Eisbaren Bremerhaven edged the Artland Dragons 57-59, Bayer Giants Leverkusen thrashed the Deutsche Bank Skyliners 61-91 while Walter Tigers Tubingen downed the Giessen 46ers 86-74.
