Fred House Tau Ceramica There is a new leader atop the Spanish League standings, none other than Tau Ceramica, that improved to 21-6 by downing Caja San Fernando 92-76 in Vitoria on Saturday. Fred House led the winners with 22 points on 5-of-6 triples while Luis Scola posted a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds for Tau. Real Madrid is now second at 20-7 due to a 87-85 overtime road loss against MMT Estudiantes. Blagota Sekulic had 18 points for Madrid, Louis Bullock added 14 while Raul Lopez hit a triple for a 84-85 lead with 25 seconds to go in overtime. Gonzalo Martinez answered from downtown to give Estudiantes its seventh consecutive win. Unicaja is now sixth at 15-12 by beating Etosa Alicante 74-61 in Malaga on Saturday behind 13 points from Daniel Santiago. Juan Carlos Navarro had 23 points to make Winterthur FC Barcelona beat ViveMenorca 77-65 at home on Saturday, while DKV Joventut did much find much trouble to beat Grupo Capitol Valladolid 76-69. Gran Canaria Grupo Dunas dropped to 15-12 due to a 86-66 road loss against Pamesa Valencia. In other games, Akasvayu Girona beat CB Granada 70-88, Lagun Aro Bilbao Basket bested Polaris World CB Murcia 78-68 while Alta Gestion Fuenlabrada edged Bruesa GBC 89-82.

Scola posted a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds, Igor Rakocevic had 14 points and Tiago Splitter added 12 for Tau. A 6-0 run that Kaya Peker capped with a dunk gave Tau a 42-31 halftime lead. Tau boosted its margin to 68-46 late in the third quarter, but a rain of three-pointers allowed Caja San Fernando to get within 80-73 with 4 minutes to go. Madrid had a chance to win in regulation, but a three-point shot by Marko Tomas hit nothing but the side of the board. Once in the extra period, a big three-pointer by Lopez gave Madrid a 84-85 edge with 25 seconds to go. Martinez answered from downtown while a final shot by Kerem Tunceri rimmed out. Gran Canaria Grupo Dunas dropped to 15-12 due to a 86-66 road loss against Pamesa Valencia. Ruben Douglas led the winners with 23 points. Jackson Vroman had 15 points for Gran Canaria, Kornel David added 14 and Sergio Perez 12. Douglas had 8 points in a 14-2 opening run for Pamesa, and added 10 more to give his team a 49-27 lead. Gran Canaria never recovered and Pamesa did not find much trouble to add a key home win.

Unicaja climbed to the sixth place at 15-12 by beating Etosa Alicante 74-61 in Malaga on Saturday. Santiago led the way for Unicaja with 13 points while Berni Rodriguez and Kostas Vasileadis each added 10 points for the winners, that trailed 19-23 midway through the second quarter. Vasileadis had 10 points in a 18-3 run that allowed Unicaja to get a 39-28 halftime margin. Unicaja boosted its margin to 53-33 after the break and never looked back. Winterthur FC Barcelona stayed third at 18-9 by topping ViveMenorca 77-65 at home on Saturday. Navarro led the winners with 23 points. Michalis Kakiouzis added 13 and Rodrigo De La Fuente 12 for Barcelona. Both teams were tied at 51-51 late in the first half. A 15-2 run that Navarro capped with a triple broke the game for good, 66-53. Even when Menorca got within 66-59, Navarro had 7 unanswered points to seal another home win for Barcelona. DKV Joventut improved to 17-10 by downing Grupo Capitol Valladolid 76-69 in Badalona on Sunday. Andy Betts led the winners with 14 points, Charles Gaines added 12, Marcelinho Huertas had 11 and Rudy Fernandez 10. It was a balanced game for 30 minutes, as even when back-to-back baskets by Betts gave Joventut a 46-36 margin, Valladolid got within 52-50 with 9 minutes to go. A triple by Ricky Rubio sparked an 8-0 run that Gaines capped with a three-point play, as Joventut soon boosted its margin to 70-56 and never looked back.
