Lithuanian League finals, Game 6: May 22, 2007
Zalgiris Kaunas is champion of Lithuania once again after downing archrival Lietuvos Rytas 77-81 in Game 6 of their playoff finals series on the road Tuesday in Vilnius. Zalgiris won the best-of-seven series 4-2. Shooting ace Marcelinho Machado was the last-minute hero for Zalgiris, hitting the go-ahead three-pointer that made it 75-77 with 34 seconds to play, then making 2 of 2 free throws with 11 seconds left to seal the outcome. The victory gave Zalgiris its 22nd Lithuanian national title and 14th since the country became independent again in 1991. Mid-season acquisition Loren Woods paced Zalgiris in Game 6 with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Tanoka Beard had a double-double, too, with 13 points and 12 boards, while Machado finished with 14 points and Marko Popovic 11. DeJuan Collins dished 7 assists for the winners. Kareem Rush had 17 points, Joao Paolo Batista 14 and Roberts Stelmahers 10 for L. Rytas, the defending domestic champion and ULEB Cup runner-up this season. Zalgiris and L. Rytas were playing their ninth consecutive Lithuanian final series against each other. L. Rytas had beaten Zalgiris in the recent final of the Baltic League.

Final Four
2006-07 LITHUANIAN LEAGUE PREVIEW
It comes as no surprise saying that Lietuvos Rytas and Zalgiris will fight for the Lithuanian League title, just like every year since 1999. All nine Lithuanian League teams will play the Baltic League, too. A 16-game round robin regular season will take place and taking into account those results, eight teams will make it to the playoffs, with best-of-three quarterfinals and semifinals and a best-of-seven final series. Lietuvos Rytas swept Zalgiris in last year's final and became the team to beat in Lithuania. Rytas is back with a competitive team with new players like Titus Ivory, Andre Emmett, Marijus Petravicius, Eurelijus Zukauskas, Janis Blums or J.P. Batista, who join forced with Roberts Stelmahers, Matt Nielsen or Andrius Slezas. Zalgiris will try to regain its crown with players like Tanoka Beard, Paulius Jankunas, Marko Popovic, Hanno Mottola, Mantas Kalnietis or Marcelinho Machado. Needless to say that both teams should be fighting for the title when the finals start. Siauliai, Sakalai and Nevezis will try to rewrite the Lithuanian basketball history. Nevezis Kedainiai counts on Mindaugas Sakalauskas and Tomas Rinkevicius, Siauliai has Audrius Danusevicius and Arturas Masiulis while Sakalai features Eligijus Redeckas, Rolandas Matulis and Martynas Gecevicius.
