2006-07 DUTCH LEAGUE PREVIEW
The Dutch League returns with a brand new look and new regulations, too. Each team is allowed to have eight non-Dutch players to improve the league's competition level, and some teams made the most out of this new rule. The EiffelTowers Den Bosch will try to defend the title with four new players such as Ray Weathers, Travis Young, Kees Akerboom and Trevor Harvey. They will join forces with Leon Rodgers, Sam Jones or Erik Nelson to become the team to beat yet again this season. It will not be as easy task, however, as the Demon Astronauts have a familar face sitting on the bench now. Joe Spinks, an institution in this club, opted to retire and become the Astronauts' coach. Will Chavis, Peter van Paassen, Andrew Dawson, Ryan Warner or Lamar Hurd will be some of his new players. The MPC Capitals of Groningen, which won the Dutch League in 2004, are ready to fight for the title with Gary Buchanan, Darnell Hinson, Alain Laroche, super scorer Chris Woods or rebounding ace Josh Helm. Rotterdam Basketbal kept Anthony Dill and added Tony Dixon, Upstairs Weert landed James Mathis, Andre Burton and Chaz McCrommon while Woon!Aris Leeuwarden put together a young team featuring Daniel Russ, Gary Ware or Ryan Diggs. They all should challenge for a semifinal spot. The top 8 teams at the end of the regular season advance to the playoffs, with best-of-three quarterfinals, best-of-five semifinals and best-of-seven finals.
