Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje - Alba Berlin Alba Berlin had to battle harder the expected to beat the Artland Dragons 87-83 at home and stay atop the German League standings with a 23-5 record. Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje led the winners with 20 points. Kirk Penney added 16, Sharrod Ford had 14 and Chris Owens 11 for Alba. Boumtje-Boumtje and Penney helped Alba to break the game in the final period and get a 79-68 lead with 3 minutes to go, enough to hold off the Dragons' rally down the stretch. Brose Baskets is now third at 20-8 by edging Sellbytel Baskets Nurnberg 78-74 at home also on Wednesday. Vincent Yarbrough paced the winners with 22 points, Casey Jacobsen added 19, Darren Fenn had 14 and Zelly Wesson 11 for Brose Baskets, that led 67-55 after three quarters. Nurnberg got within 70-69 but Fenn and Jacobsen stepped up to make Brose Baskets prevail. RheinEnergie dropped to 19-9 due to a 65-58 road loss against Braunschweig. Immanuel McElroy had 15 points for RheinEnergie while Aleksandar Nadjfeji added 12. In other games, the Deutsche Bank Skyliners downed BG Karlsruhe 84-93 in overtime, Eisbaren Bremerhaven beat Walter Tigers Tubingen 70-62, Bayer Giants Leverkusen edged Ratiopharm Ulm 89-84, Telekom Baskets Bonn bested EWE Baskets Oldenburg 74-60, Giessen 46ers edged TBB Trier 79-78 while EnBW Ludwigsburg defeated Paderborn Baskets 80-77.
