Serbian League, Phase 2, Game 1: April 4, 2007
FMP edged Crvena Zvezda 106-105 in double-overtime on Wednesday to start the second phase of the Serbian League season on the right foot. With local powerhouses Hemofarm, Partizan, Crvena Zvezda and FMP returning to the league at the end of their Adriatic League campaigns, every game takes on new meaning. As expected, Partizan and Hemofarm also won, defeating Mega Ishrana 91-74 at home and Sloga 75-97 on the road, respectively. In the fourth game on opening night, Phase 1 winner Vojvodina dumped Masinac 86-59.
There was plenty of excitement in Zeleznik, where the game was decided by free throws down the stretch. Crvena Zvezda's Antonio Burks missed 2-of-4 in the final two possesions and Dragan Labovic made his to secure the win for FMP. Burks, who was 9-for-12 from the line, had his other miss at a costly point at the end of regulation. Djordje Micic missed his chance to win it from the line for FMP. Milos Teodosic led FMP with 23 points, Dragan Labovic had 20, Zoran Erceg added 15 points and 8 rebounds, Branko Cvetkovic scored 14 and Bojan Krstovic 11. Burks finished with 23 points and 4 assists for Crvena Zvezda, Tadija Dragicevic posted 22 points and 10 rebounds and Kebu Stewart had 17 points and 13 boards in defeat.
Partizan pulled away in the second quarter to top Mega Ishrana 91-74. With the defending champs up just 39-38 at the halftime break, Partizan took care of business in the second half. Nikola Pekovic led the way with 24 points and 11 rebounds in 22 minutes, Dusan Kecman added 16 and Luka Bogdanovic and Novica Velickovic had 13 each. Branislav Ratkovica paced Mega Ishrana with 19. Meanwhile Hemofarm took a 14-25 lead after 10 minutes and cruised past Sloga for a big road win. Predrag Suput led Hemofarm with 18 points, Bojan Bakic added 17, Milenko Topic finished with 12 points and 6 assists and Stefan Markovic tallied 11. Milos Bojovic scored a game-high 20 in defeat.
