French League, Game 28: April 5-8, 2007
A huge fourth-quarter outburst saw Roanne stun French-League leading Sluc Nancy on Sunday 91-80 to move within one win of the top spot. That result combined with Adecco Asvel's 81-64 win against second-place Chalon sees the top of the standings grow as close as ever with the stretch run in the league drawing closer. Nancy, now 20-8, led 61-68 after 30 minutes and held a 6-point advantage after a Tariq Kirksay Michael Wright - EB Pau-Orthezbasjet with 4 minutes to go, but the hosts finished the game on an incredible 18-1 run to take the win. Aaron Harper led Roanne with 28 points and 11 boards, Marc Salyers posted 13 and 8 and Pape Badiane complimented them inside with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Kirksay and Branko Milisavljevic had 22 each for Nancy, Daniel McClintock added 18 and Maxime Zianveni posted 10 points and 14 rebounds in defeat. Strasbourg missed a chance to close in on the top group due to a 75-55 road loss against Gravelines. Stephen Brun led the winners with 22 points. Chuck Eidson had 13 points for Strasbourg while Michael Smith and Afik Nissim each added 10 for the guests, who trailed 61-47 after 30 minutes and never recovered. Pau-Orthez showed its power and improved to 16-12 by downing Le Mans 78-91 on the road also on Saturday. Michael Wright paced the winners with 24 points. Aaron Miles added 20 while Melvin Sanders had 13 for Pau. Kenny Gregory had 20 points for Le Mans, Sandro Nicevic added 16, Eric Campbell 13 and Nebojsa Bogavac 11. A 9-0 run that Nicevic capped with back-to-back jumper helped Le Mans to get a 46-41 halftime edge. Miles had 15 points in the third quarter to make Pau get a 65-69 lead after 30 minutes. Pau boosted its margin to 68-86 and never looked back. In other games, Bourg beat Clermont 79-66, Dijon thrashed Hyeres-Toulon 73-92, Cholet topped Orleans 64-72, Besancon defeated Paris 84-97 while Le Havre needed overtime to down Reims 74-81.
