Russian League, Game 26: April 2-8, 2007
CSKA Moscow and Unics Kazan now share the top spot in the Russian League standings, each with a 20-3 record. CSKA did not find much trouble to down University Surgut 99-55 in Moscow on Sunday. The defending champs wrapped up an easy win with a 37-5 fourth quarter in their last appearance before Thursday's crucial Euroleague Quarterfinal Playoffs deciding game versus Maccabi Tel Aviv. David Andersen had 23 points and Aleksey Savrasenko 21 points and 14 rebounds to lead CSKA. Zakhar Pashutin added 12 and Anton Ponkrashov 10. Meanwhile, Unics had a successful week and registered three road wins in as many games. Unics simply overwhelmed Dynamo Moscow region 59-93 on the road on Monday. Yahor Meshcharakou led the way with 18 points, Ksystof Lavrinovic added 17, twin brother Darjus had 14 and Jamal McCullough 13 in an easy road win for Unics, which led 22-51 at halftime. Unics then downed Spartak Primorie 62-80 on Thursday behind 22 points from Sergeu Chikalkin and 15 from McCullough, and then thrashed Sibirtelekom 58-95 in Novosibirsk on Saturday as Chikalkin led seven Unics players in double figures. Khimki improved to 19-4 by thrashing Ural Great 99-73 at home on Wednesday. Maciej Lampe led the way for Khimki with 20 points, Kelly McCarty added 18 and Vladimir Veremeenko 15 for the winners, who went up 28-9 after 10 minutes and never looked back. Dynamo Moscow improved to 17-6 by downing Ural Great 65-89 in Perm on Sunday. Dynamo used runs in the first and third quarters to put the game out of reach. Sergey Monia led Dynamo with 16, Sergei Bykov added 15, Eddie Gill 14 and Andrei Trushkin 13 for the winners. Derrick Tarver posted 22 in defeat. In other games, Lokomotiv Rostov bested Spartak St. Petersburg 61-83 on Friday.
