German League, Regular Season, Week 29: April 7-8
Alba Berlin send a message that echoed all around the German League by edging Brose Baskets 65-68 in Bamberg on Sunday. Alba stays atop the German League standings with a 24-5 record while Brose Baskets dropped to 20-9 and shares the third spot with RheinEnergie. Chris Owens and Julius Jenkins led the winners each with 15 points while Sharrod Ford added 10 for Alba. Casey Jacobsen had 14 points for Brose Baskets, Darren Fenn 12 and Steffen Hamann 11. A three-pointer by Vincent Yarbrough allowed Brose Baskets to get a 39-35 halftime edge. Jacobsen and Fenn helped the hosts to boost their margin to 52-44 after 30 minutes but Alba was not done. Jenkins had 11 points down the stretch to put his team ahead, 60-62. Johannes Herber kept Alba ahead, 62-65, with 33 seconds to go and Brose Baskets could not send the game to overtime. RheinEnergie showed its power by thrashing Telekom Baskets Bonn 87-70 at home also on Sunday. Mlajden Sljivancanin paced the winners with 22 points, Aleksandar Nadjfeji added 17, Immanuel McElroy 13 and Demond Mallet 12 in an easy home win for RheinEnergie, that led 49-32 at halftime and never looked back. In other games, the Giessen 46ers edged the Deutsche Bank Skyliners 60-62, Ratiopharm Ulm bested BG Karlsruhe 101-83, Bremenhaven topped TBB Trier 77-86, Tubingen thrashed the Artland Dragons 75-58, EnBW Ludwigsburg overwhelmed Nurnberg 75-104 while Oldenburg edged Leverkusen 81-80.
