Baltic League Playoffs, Quarterfinals: April 4-9, 2007
Ventspils and Siauliai advanced to the Baltic League Final Four. Ventspils beat Kalev Tallinn by 6 points at the end of the teams' home-and-home quarterfinal series, while Siauliai overpowered ASK Riga. Ventspils will now face Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius in the first semifinals in the Final Four in Riga on April 20, while Zalgiris Kaunas awaits Siauliai in the nightcap. Kalev scored a thrilling 75-74 success in Game 1 with a buzzer-beating basket by Kendrick Johnson. Dusan Jelic led Ventspils with 20. On Saturday, the perennial Latvian champs bounced back with a 79-72 victory at home. Ventspils raced out to a 28-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Kalev upped its defense and allowed a mere 7 points in the second quarter to tied the game at 35-35 at halftime. The hosts built a comfortable 72-59 margin early in the final quarter, but Kalev never gave up and climbed within 72-67. Down the stretch, Pavel Veselovs was lethal and he helped Ventspils to maintain a slim margin till the final buzzer. Uvis Helmanis was the top scorer for Ventspils with 17 points, Aigars Vitols added 13 and Jelic 12. Travis Reed amassed 30 points and 12 rebounds in defeat. Riga went into the return leg hoping its 71-68 lead from the first game would hold, but Siauliai outscored its opponents by 15 in the second quarter to take control for good on the way to an 82-63 win. Tadas Klimavicius led Siauliai with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Curtis Millage scored 17 in defeat.
