Nancy showed its power by thrashing Cholet 60-86 on the road on Saturday. Tariq Kirksay led the winners with 20 points, Cyril Julian posted a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, Cedrick Banks had 12 points and Maxime Zianveni 11 in an easy road win for Nancy, which led 31-45 at halftime and never looked back. Pau-Orthez dropped to 0-1 due to a 76-61 road loss against Le Havre. Sherman Gay paced Le Havre with 17 points. Thierry Rupert had 19 points for Pau while Ricardo Greer added 13 and 13 rebounds. Le Havre led 39-32 at halftime and boosted its margin to 61-47 after 30 minutes, enough to cruise to a big win. Roanne shocked everyone by edging Strasbourg 74-77 on the road. Dewarick Spencer led Roanne with 22 points, while Chuck Eidson and Afik Nissim each had 13 for the hosts. It all came down to the final minutes, in which back-to-back baskets by Spencer and Marc Salyers gave Roanne a 72-75 edge. Nissim and Spencer exchanged free throws, while Michael Smith missed twice from downtown in Strasbourg's final possession. Dijon provided one of the biggest surprises in the opening round by downing Le Mans 69-70 on the road on Sunday. T.J. Lux led the winners with 18 points while Mario Bennett added 13. Kenny Gregory had 22 points for Le Mans, Nebojsa Bogavac added 14 and Eric Campbell 11. Le Mans seemed to have full control of the game, as it rallied from an 8-18 early deficit to get within 33-34 at halftime. Gregory, Bogavac and Campbell took over in the third quarter, as a free throw by Yannick Bokolo gave Le Mans a 59-47 margin after 30 minutes. Laurent Sciarra stroke twice from downtown in a 0-10 run, which back-to-back baskets by Bennett completed the Dijon comeback, 62-63. It all came down to the final seconds, in which Ali Bouziane and Bogavac exchanged free throws for a 69-70 Dijon edge, while Pape Philippe Amagou missed a desperation shot at the buzzer. In other games, Orleans overwhelmed Bourg 48-77, Adecco Asvel thrashed Reims 50-74, Gravelines beat Hyeres-Toulon 88-66, Chalon edged Besancon 79-78 while Clermont topped Paris 81-73.
