Portuguese League Quarterfinals, Game 1: April 12, 2007
The best-of-five Portuguese League quarterfinals started without surprises, as all four home teams won their respective games. Ovarense Aerosoles lived up to the expectations by thrashing Queluz Sintra PM 83-68 in Game 1 on Thursday. Cordell Henry led the winners with 21 points while Shawn Jackson added 19 in an easy home win for Ovarense, that led 40-23 at halftime and never looked back. Benfica also took a 1-0 lead in its quarterfinal series by overwhelming CAB Madeira 82-50 at home. Brooks Sales, Carlos Andrade, Miguel Minhava and Ashante Johnson each had 13 points for Benfica. FC Porto Ferpinta downed Casino Figueira Ginasio 77-64 to lead the quarterfinals series 1-0. Nuno Marcal had 17 points for the winners while John Whorton added 14. Porto led 50-21 at halftime, enough to seal the outcome. Finally, Lusitania Angra PM edged Belenenses Hyundai Lusifor 86-80 also in Game 1. Willie Taylor had 26 points for Lusitania, Graham Brown added 21 and 12 rebounds while Cameron Echols led Beleneses with 20 points. Game 2 takes place this weekend.
