Greek League, Game 24: April 21, 2007
Jeremiah Massey - Aris TT Bank Panathinaikos clinched the Greek League regular season championship on Saturday with a 79-73 win over Maroussi. The Greens improved to 22-2 – three wins more than the next teams – with just two games remaining. Meanwhile Panionios made the most noise of the afternoon with a 79-81 win over Olympiacos Piraeus at the Peace and Friendship Stadium. The surprising result saw Olympiacos lose its sole grip on second place and slip into a tie with Aris, which scored an 81-86 win at Larissa as Jeremiah Massey scored 19 points against his former club. Panionios improved to 14-10 and now trails PAOK by one win for fourth place in the standings. PAOK beat Olympiada Patras 67-55. In other results, Egaleo edged AEK for the second time this season 87-83, Panellinios beat Olympia Larissas 77-71 and Apollon Patras dominated Makedonikos 88-69.

Panathinaikos topped Maroussi 79-73 in a game that was easier than the final score indicates. It was more like a practice for the defending Greek champs, who are preparing for the Euroleague Final Four next month in Athens. The Greens led 65-37 late in the third period before easing up down the stretch. Nikos Hatzivrettas and Dimitris Papanikolaou led the winners with 12 points apiece, while Dimitris Diamantidis and Milos Vujanic contributed 9 and 8 respectively. Danya Abrams led Maroussi with 16 points. In Piraeus, Ender Arslan was the key player for Panionios, scoring 17 points with 4-on-5 three-point shooting and making 3-on-4 free throws in the last seconds. Stratos Perperoglou was the leading scorer for the visitors with 18 points, while Andre Hutson and Kennedy Winston added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Giannis Bouroussis led Olympiacos with 22 points and 18 rebounds, while Henry Domercant had 17, Alex Acker 15 and Arvydas Macijauskas 11. It was Olympiacos’s second loss this season to Panionios.

Aris escaped from Larissa with an 81-86 win as Mike Wilkinson scored 22 points and Massey added 19 against his former club. Spiros Panteliadis and Dimitris Tsaldaris had 11 and 10, respectively. Arthur Lee led the host with 24 points. PAOK beat Olympiada Patras 67-55 behind 11 points from Drago Pasalic and 10 apiece from Jason Parker and C.J. Watson. Lewis Sims led Olympiada with 14 points. Egaleo edged AEK for the second time this season as Keydren Clark and Vassilis Soulis poured in 28 and 27 points, respectively. Christos Tapoutos had 20 for AEK.
