Turkish Cup, Final 8: April 20-22, 2007
Efes Pilsen won the 22nd Tadim Turkish Cup on Sunday with a 73-59 win over Banvit of Bandirma at the Final 8 in Antalya. It was the eighth win in nine final appearances for Efes, which also won lasts season. After the score was tied 31-31 at halftime, Efes started the second half with 14 unanswered points to take control for good. Banvit led 17-15 after 10 minutes thanks to the three-point shooting of Bekir Yarangume and Arthur Long, but the game remained neck-and-neck until halftime. But Efes held Banvit scoreless for 5 minutes at the start of the third period and Antonio Granger, Kerem Gonlum, Drew Nicholas and Ermal Kuqo scored during the run as Efes built a 53-47 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Efes enjoyed some triples from Alexandar Rasic, Granger, Nicholas and Mustafa Abi and never let Banvit come back. Gonlum was named MVP of the game with 15 points and 16 rebounds, Granger scored 17 and Rasic added 11 for Efes. Long scored 19 and grabbed 12 rebounds, Marques Perry had 15 points plus 5 assists and Yarangume finished with 17 points for Banvit.
To reach the final, Banvit shocked Fenerbahce in the semifinals with an 88-87 win in overtime after the game was tied 77-77 at the end of regulation. Long had a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds, Yarangume added 18 points and Caner Topaloglu 16 for Banvit. Mirsad Turkcan posted a double-double of 19 points and 21 rebounds and Ibrahim Kutluay scored 27, but it wasn't enough to help Fener in the end. Efes Pilsen advanced after an easy 74-57 victory over Pinar Karsiyaka. Gonlum's double-double of 12 points and 16 rebounds and Nicholas's 17 points paced Efes. The Final 8 games started on Friday with the much anticipated game between Fenerbahce Ulker and Turk Telekom, which Fener went on to win 79-68. Banvit defeated CASA TED Kolejliler 89-85, Pinar Karsiyaka outclassed Besiktas Cola Turka 82-55 and Efes Pilsen beat Galatasaray Cafe Crown 77-69 to reach the semifinals.
