Polish League Playoffs, Semifinals, Game 1: April 21-22, 2007
Prokom Trefl Sopot and Turow Zgorzelec opened their respective best-of-seven Polish League playoff semifinals series with a victories over the weekend. Defending champion Prokom topped Anwil Wloclawek 90-83 on Sunday, while Turow crushed ASCO Slask Wroclaw 74-51 the day before. Meanwhile, Six teams are still fighting to avoid relegation to the lower division. Brandon Spann had 21 points and Denis Korszuk added 19 points and 10 rebounds for AZS in a 94-72 vitory over Znicz Jaroslaw. Courtney Daniels posted a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds for Kotwica, which beat Kager 77-91 and Polonia Warsaw easily beat Unia Tarnow 71-100.
Prokom led for most of the game, but wasn’t able to escape. Finally in the middle of the fourth quarter with the score tied at 70-70, the hosts went on a 9-0 run, which proved to be decisive. Anwil got back within 4, but could get no closer. Christian Dalmau scored 16 of his game-high 23 in the first half to lead Prokom. He also made all of his 5 attempts from beyond the arc and added 5 assists. Huseyin Besok finished with 19 points and 5 rebounds, while Adam Wojcik added 10 points. Zbigniew Bialek scored 16 to lead five Anwil scorers in double figures. Andrzej Pluta added 14 and Otis Hill 12 for the visitors, who made just 10 of 19 attempts from the line.
Turow dominated its opening game, although at the beginning of the second quarter Slask still lead 19-20. But then hosts used a 17-6 run to close the first half and 21-4 surge to open the second one. Slask couldn’t find a way to stop Thomas Kelati, who scored 16 of his 19 points before the break. Krzysztof Roszyk added 13 for Turow. Dominik Tomczyk scored 12 points for Slask in defeat.
