Polish League Playoffs, Semifinals, Game 2: April 23-24, 2007
Prokom Trefl Sopot took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Polish League playoff semifinal series on Tuesday after edging Anwil Wloclawek 90-89. On Monday, ASCO Slask Wroclaw equaled its series again Turow Zgorzelec at 1-1 with a 55-57 win on the road. At Sopot, the hosts were trailing for most of the first half, but took control in the second. Prokom went ahead by as many as 8 points (79-71), but Anwil was able to come back. With a minute left, the visitors took the lead following Andrzej Pluta’s free throws. But Prokom responded with five consecutive shots from the line, four of them from Donatas Slanina. Between them Filip Dylewicz grabbed an offensive rebound, the most important of the game. Zbigniew Bialek’s triple at the buzzer only cut the gap to 90-89. Slanina led the winners with 24 points, Huseyin Besok added 14, Filip Dlewicz and Jasmin Hukic scored 12 apiece and Adam Wojcik finished with 10. Pluta scored 23 for Anwil, while former Prokom star Goran Jagodnik added 19. The Wroclaw/Turow game was dominated by defense. After a blow-out loss in the opening game, Slask took an early lead and built it to 13 points in the second quarter. But the hosts came back with a 13-1 run and took a brief lead in the third quarter. Both teams struggled to score in the fourth quarter. With two minutes remaining Vljeko Petrovic finally hit a triple for hosts, but it was the last basket of the evening. On the final Turow’s possession Robert Witka missed a wide-open triple and Slask celebrated the win. Marcon Stefanski led winners with 17 points on perfect shooting. Dominik Tomczyk added 14, while Witka led all scorers with 22.
